PERTH COURSES, ENROLMENT FORM and NEWS

If you are enjoying Perth M.A.L.A. please tell your friends, (and if you are not, please email to help your committee to remedy any deficiencies!)

info@mala.org.au

Remember to keep scrolling all the way down to read the full page of useful Perth information!

If you had enrolled in any Part A Courses PLEASE complete an on-line evaluation.

Even if you did not attend the course you first enrolled in, but switched to another, we need you to complete evaluations for both, so we can understand why the switch.

For everyone to complete an evaluation is the most important contribution you can make to MALA. It only takes a minute or two on-line!

For those unable to complete on-line evaluations, paper forms will be available on Friday.

EVALUATIONS

Part B Courses commence on 13th October, however early enrolment is essential.

If you have not yet enrolled in Part B courses - get in quick!

Tap/Click on the Red button to enrol now.

All documents on our MALA website appear in PDF format for security and integrity reasons. Any “pdf reader” (most are free) may be used to read these documents but even if you don't have a pdf reader, you can still open a pdf file with Microsoft Word (2013 or later.)

First download the pdf file to your own device, then select it and RIGHT-click. Choose 'open with MS Word'.

Click on the red button to be taken to an on-line enrolment form. Please follow the simple instructions to complete it and to send through your payment.

NEWSLETTER

A letter from the heart...

Recently your Perth Committee received a personal note from Life Member John Bunday which we considered well worth sharing with our membership:

Dear MALA friends,

I am glad still to be on your mailing list and sad that neither my wife Annette nor I is in a position to enrol or even attend the occasional lecture. Age, hearing, declining health and mobility problems control our lives these days. Be assured that we will always be enthusiastic supporters. MALA was our most important and delightful routine activity for about 30 years. You made me a Life Member and I hope to be able to hold onto that spot for a little while yet.

I would be glad if the members who may remember us are told that we are both as well as we can be, still managing to be together in our own house - for how much longer we do not know. Life owes us nothing. Indeed we are grateful for what we have and intend to continue making the most of it for as long as possible.

It is a matter of great satisfaction to see that MALA appears to go from strength to strength. May it go on prospering and continue to remind folk that learning is a lifetime experience.

With good wishes and affection,

John Bunday"

Please volunteer to help us!

We are seeking an additional volunteer to help out at the MALA Information Desk at GBLC on Friday mornings during our two 5-week series of courses each semester.

Please consider helping - it’s not onerous, but it helps to make MALA the welcoming and smoothly functioning lecture program for seniors that has made it so very popular over the last 43 years!

If interested, please contact our chairman, Julie, on 0498 560 026.

We also need everyday members to consider stepping up to support the continuation of Perth MALA by nominating for our committee in 2024.  Please talk with one of our present committee (photos & names towards the very bottom of this page) about what is involved.

THE OPPORTUNITY TO TOUR THE WA ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS [WAAPA] IS NOW FULLY SUBSCRIBED...

If you have missed out but wish to be wait-listed in case of any cancellations, please contact Rowena on rplambert49@gmail.com

Home to the likes of iconic Aussie performers including Hugh Jackman, Frances O’Connor, Lucy Durack, Tim Minchin and Lisa McCune, this tour of WAAPA takes you both backstage and on stage: you are shown through Props and Scenery, Lighting or Costume workshops and visit a Music, Theatre or Dance class.

There will also be a Q&A with a WAAPA representative.

Morning tea is included in your ticket price. You may purchase a light lunch on campus or bring your own.

After lunch you get to enjoy a free concert in the Richard Gill Auditorium.

Thursday 26 October, 2023

8.30am arrival for 8.45am start.

You will need to arrange your own transport and meet at WAAPA —2 Bradford St, Mt Lawley by 8.30am. Parking is free (a parking voucher will be provided.)

Cost is $47 per person.

Of course we may not get to see all the shenanigans that go on in the dressing rooms?

This is Nola Formentin (WAAPA graduate1990) about to go on as Reverend Mother in a stage production of 'The Sound of Music'!

(Nola is apparently a renowned baritone, but a little helium goes a long way in fact, octaves!)
